About ACT

Altona City Theatre (ACT) is an amateur theatre group that produces live musical theatre productions in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.  We are an incorporated not-for-profit organisation governed by a volunteer Committee of Management (The Committee).

The group was formed in 1972 staging their maiden production of HMS Pinafore and originally performed in a local high school assembly hall until the then Council of the City of Altona completed construction of the Altona Theatre in 1988.

ACT’s performance season generally includes;

  • A children’s pantomime in March.
  • Two major theatrical productions in July and October.
  • A theatrical production by our youth program, ACTion, in September.

Established in 1995, ACT runs a very successful and low-cost junior theatre program known as ACTion Youth Theatre which has been involving and educating children in the performing arts from the local area and beyond for over 15 years.

We are currently based at the Altona Theatre, located at 115 Civic Parade, Altona, where we conduct auditions, rehearsals and performances.
