The Little Mermaid Auditions

The Little Mermaid

Director: Megan O’Hagan Musical Director: Jayla McLennan Choreographer: Kath Fraser Producer: Mark Crick Prince William’s royal parents are a little hard up, and would like him to marry a well off princess. But William wants adventure over the seas, and has caught the eye of a young mermaid princess, Sirena. William is fascinated by the wonders and mystery of the ocean and wants nothing but to explore what happens beyond the shore. Our beautiful mermaid Sirena should be a happy girl – she lives in an enchanted underwater world, her father, Neptune, is the ruler of the sea, and she has the most beautiful singing voice. But she is passionate and determined, and longs for what she cannot have – to explore the world beyond the sea. When she becomes fascinated with a handsome human prince, Sirena is more determined than ever to gain a pair of legs. But her only option is to defy her father and bargain with Crustacia the Evil Sea Witch, giving her voice as the price of entry onto dry land. Sirena must wordlessly gain Prince William’s love within two days – or be banished to Crustacia’s cave forever! For over two decades our annual pantomimes have been providing new performers with a great opportunity to learn about theatre in a fun and relaxed environment – whether you’re young or old, an experienced or inexperienced performer, we’d love to have you audition for this amazing production.

Audition Requirements

This production has a minimum age of 8 years for all cast members.

Vocal:

You will be required to prepare one song in the style of the show (pop/rock). Please consider the style of the show and the character(s) you are auditioning for when choosing a song – it should be fun and show your vocal range! CD/iDevice backing tracks are allowed and encouraged – we’ll have a CD player / “AUX Cord” you can use. Please ensure that you use a track with no (lead) vocals – recordings with vocals will not be accepted. Alternatively, you can bring sheet music and our multi-talented piano player will play it for you. The sheet music must be in the desired key (we will not transpose), and please write in any slight edits you may need. Please note that a’capella singing will not be accepted.

Acting:

At the audition you may be given some script excerpts to read. Of course, acting is not just something you do with words, your acting during the singing will also be considered!

Dancing:

A compulsory dance call will be held on Saturday 28th April at the Altona Theatre. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (no open toe shoes are allowed on stage).

Lastly:

Don’t be nervous – we will try and make the process as enjoyable as possible. Relax. Enjoy. Don’t worry if you mess up – we want to see what you CAN do, and we will conveniently ignore any mistakes you make. PS Learn your song off by heart! Extra points are always awarded for people who are prepared! :)
